ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL CHALLENGE

[Photo] - Kids running The Wisconsin Governor's Challenge is pleased to partner with the Office of Governor Jim Doyle and Trek Bicycle Corporation on an exciting initiative designed to get kids more active. It's a special edition of the Wisconsin Governor's Challenge and we're challenging classrooms across Wisconsin to participate in the challenge.

Through the Challenge, students will participate in activities that can be done at school and at home to build physical activity into their daily routine, encouraging them to make a lifelong commitment to active, healthy living.

Completing the challenge is fun and easy…just do 60 minutes of physical activity, five days a week for six weeks (or more!) between September 6 and December 2, 2005. Challenge other school in your school district to participate too!

Start planning now to take the Special Fall Edition of the Challenge*

Participating is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

Step 1: Plan your challenge
Mark your calendars! The Special Fall Edition of the Challenge will begin September 6th, so now is a great time to start planning on how you can get your students ready for the challenge.

Step 2: Complete your challenge
Each day, choose a physical activity for your students that encourage maximum participation by all students and increases their heart rates. Each student that participates will need to do 60 minutes of physical activity, five days a week for six weeks.

Step 3: Register your class at www.wisconsinchallenge.org
Click here at any time to register your school. NOTE: You will need to have each student register separately or you can log their activities on our paper log [.PDF].

*Note: You may want to inform parents that this Special Fall Edition of the Challenge is taking place, and provide suggestions on how families can be supportive at home. In addition, informing your administration and colleagues would be a good idea… maybe this can become a district-wide challenge!

Good luck! If you have any trouble, feel free to call our helpline at 608-267-0619 or email us at challenge@wisconsin.gov. We'll be having some "training" conference calls for school leaders in late August and early September, as well, and that information will be posted soon.
